Steel gauge is the classic corner to cut: thinner sheet than quoted looks identical until the cabinet flexes, so specify gauge and verify by measurement at inspection. Powder-coating thickness, adhesion and edge coverage vary between factories and drive rust complaints later. Welds and lock hardware deserve functional checks, not visual ones. Factories geared to domestic institutional orders often need export packing explicitly upgraded to survive container transit.

Dongguan supplements Foshan on the general side, and Bazhou in Hebei specialises in office furniture; pricing across the category runs from $25 for simple flatpack items to $1,800 for premium solid-wood or upholstered pieces, with lead times typically 45 to 90 days. Formaldehyde emissions from composite wood — MDF, particleboard, plywood core — are the compliance issue that catches the most buyers off guard, since CARB Phase 2 and TSCA Title VI limits are strict enough that shipments using boards from informal, non-compliant mills do get seized at the border.
