Foshan is the largest furniture manufacturing cluster in the world, and the range of what comes out of it is genuinely enormous — flatpack pieces built to tight cost targets sit a few kilometres from workshops producing solid wood and upholstered furniture for five-star hospitality contracts, and the gap between those two tiers in construction quality is much bigger than the gap in what a listing photo shows. Dongguan supplements Foshan on the general side, and Bazhou in Hebei specialises in office furniture; pricing across the category runs from $25 for simple flatpack items to $1,800 for premium solid-wood or upholstered pieces, with lead times typically 45 to 90 days. Formaldehyde emissions from composite wood — MDF, particleboard, plywood core — are the compliance issue that catches the most buyers off guard, since CARB Phase 2 and TSCA Title VI limits are strict enough that shipments using boards from informal, non-compliant mills do get seized at the border. Joinery is the other real differentiator: mortise-and-tenon or dowel-and-glue construction with corner blocks holds up under genuine load, while staple-and-glue construction, which looks identical in a finished photo, doesn't. A load test on drawer slides and joints, run to well beyond rated capacity, is the single most useful thing a buyer can do before committing to a production quantity.

LED Lights

Most LED programmes succeed or fail on two components nobody puts on the spec sheet: the driver and the heatsink. A buyer can spend weeks negotiating lumen output and colour temperature and still end up with a fixture that dies in under a year because the driver's capacitors were undersized to hit a price point. China's Pearl River Delta — Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Foshan — has the deepest LED supply chain in the world, and pricing reflects it: complete fixtures run from around $0.80 for basic strip lighting up to $45 for engineered industrial and horticultural units, with lead times of 20 to 45 days depending on tooling. The buyers who do well in this category tend to split into two groups. Commercial and hospitality specifiers care most about consistent colour temperature across a large installation and genuine lumen maintenance over the fixture's rated life, since a mismatched batch is expensive to fix once it's installed. Ecommerce and retail brands care more about landed cost and certification coverage, because a fixture missing CCC, CE or UL/ETL simply can't clear customs or sit on a shelf in its target market. The tell for a serious factory is whether it will let you test before you commit to volume. Good ones welcome independent lab verification of lumen output and driver lifespan because they know their numbers hold up; the ones who get defensive about it, or who quote suspiciously round efficacy figures, are usually the ones cutting corners on heatsink mass or chip binning.
