Wuxi is one of the quieter and more dependable names on China's sourcing map, and it is not a cheap one. Sitting on the Yangtze Delta plain between Shanghai and Nanjing, in one of the country's most developed industrial corridors, it works nothing like the market-driven cities of Zhejiang or the mega-clusters of the Pearl River Delta: well-capitalised factories, good industrial infrastructure, and supply chains geared to quality rather than rock-bottom cost.

Wuxi is a recognised centre for yoga mats and fitness products, makes mid-to-premium apparel and industrial textiles, produces electronics and components, and carries a substantial solar and clean-energy sector plus some medical device work — categories where material quality, process control and consistency decide the supplier. Its 15,000-odd factories often work directly with overseas brands rather than through trading layers, and Shanghai's port is an hour and a half away, with the city's own Sunan Shuofang airport closer still and the Suzhou, Kunshan and Changzhou corridor next door.
